Crowd Pleasing Easy Fig Appetizer

Figs, fig appetizer

Figs, fig appetizerI LOVE FIGS! If you’ve never tried one you must know before it’s too late – fig season is from August to October!! The darker purple ones are sweeter and more tender, those are the best, in my opinion. A little fun fact – figs are not a fruit!! They are inverted flowers pollinated only by wasps… Lesson over, let’s talk about the most delicious easy fig appetizer you’ll devour and impress your guests with.

My friend’s mom was the inspiration behind making this appetizer. When she mentioned this recipe, I knew I had to try it and make it my own. This fresh, delicious fig appetizer comes together in less than 10 minutes, maybe even 5?! I like to put everything on a platter and make it pretty. Beautiful displays somehow make the experience more enjoyable and delicious.

Assembling Fig Appetizer

Depending on how long your platter is and how many guests you’ll have will depend on the number of figs. I like to display food in odd numbers, for this board, I used 5 figs for 2 people. If you don’t have a specialty market that sells figs, Trader Joe’s always has them when they’re in season, and are always delicious!

First, you’ll want to wash and pat dry your figs. Cut the top of the fig in a crisscross pattern about halfway down. You will then slightly squeeze the fig to form an opening. In a small bowl mix goat cheese and 1 Tablespoon of honey. Next, you will want to fill a ziplock bag with goat cheese and honey then squeeze and blend together.  Next, you will want to place the goat cheese and honey mixture in the corner of the bag.  Cut a small piece of the tip off of the corner of the bag so you can pipe the goat cheese into the figs.  Once you have all the figs filled and lined up drizzle honey over the top in a zigzag pattern. Next, sprinkle some crushed pistachios on top and drop a few pieces of fresh thyme on top for a pop of herby-lemon and color.

For the board, I have placed a pile of pistachios in each corner with a sprig of fresh thyme for decoration.  I laid out a pile of thin crackers, these are my favorite gluten-free crisps and a little block of goat cheese.  This app comes together so quickly, looks beautiful, tastes delicious, and looks like way more effort than it actually is.

Serve and enjoy with white wine or rosé, my favorite is Whispering Angle!
